International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

International day for disaster risk reduction  is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress being made toward preventing and reducing disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods, economies and basic infrastructure in line with the international agreement for reducing global disaster risk and losses.

Women and girls especially are disproportionately impacted by these disasters and threats, including climate change, from life expectancy to education, housing, health, safety, job security, and nutrition, women and girls are impacted more severely than men, they experience higher loss of lives and livelihoods during disasters and a longer recovery time.
Natural disasters kill more women than men and lower the life expectancy of women more than men. The stronger the disaster, the stronger the impact on the gender gap in life expectancy.
